WESTERN NEW YORK Increased Appetite There was an insurance of $100 on the house and $125 on the contents. Miss Cvnthia Fiske died at the family resideuee in Byron yesterday morning. Three weeks ago occurred the death of her brother, John S. Fiske. The surviving members of the family are Pliny of Bvron, and Mrs.

Abigail Greene, of Los Angelos, Cal. The funeral will be held at the home to-morrow afternoon. An apparent attempt at burglary was made at the hotel in Byron on Wednesday All old soldiers and sailors are invited to meet the afternoon for a social time and dinner. The public are invited to the evening exercises. There will be songs, recitations and addresses.

-Gardiner Howlaud, of Syracuse, and Miss Mollis Siuart of Gaines were married at Albion lasst Tuesday by Rev. Dr. A. C. Osborn.

The potato market at Naples is remarkably active for this season of the year. One farm 13 taking in an average ot 1,000 bushels per day. The price paid is 40 cents. A Republican caucus will be held in Union Hall at Victor on Tuesday, February 27th, at 2 o'clock, for tho purpose of nominating town officers to be elected at the approaching election. The marriage of Irving Manning to Miss Lottie Tyler Sims, both of Naples, took place at tho home of Mrs.

Arnold, sister of the groom, on Tuesday evening, Rev. Eugene Ajithony officiating. The remains of Dr. Octavius C. Lyon will reach Naples to-day for burial in Rose Ridge cemetery.

Dr. Lyon was a native of Naples, was educated in the schools of the town and at Canandaigua academy. After receiving a medical diploma, he removed to Michigan and mar ried there. For the past few years he had retired from active practice and car ried on a drug store in Detroit, where he died on Tuesday, aged about 52 years. His mother, Mrs.

Julia Lyon, resides at Naples; also a tr older brother, C. M. Lyon. The Republican electors of the town of East Bloomfield have issued a call to ireet at the town hall to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock to nominate candidates for the town election to be held on the 0th day of March, ami to transact such other busi ness as may come before the meeting. The Democratic caucus for the town of East Bloomfield is called for Monday af ternoon.

A vote will be taken at the town elections of the towns of East Bloom field, Richmond and Bristol on an appropriation for tho purpose of purchasing a stone crusher. The home of Mr. aid Mrs. Peter Plumb, w-ho reside a few miles north of Victor, was the scene on Tuesday evening last of the marriage of their youaige-st daughter, Etita Ellen, to Henry Pimm, of Victor. A large assemblage of friends were present to witness the ceremony which took place at 5 o'clock and was performed by tho Rev.

John Clute, of the Methodist Church, assisted bv the Rev Charles N. Frost, pastor of the Frost Presbyterian Church of Victor. At the hour named the bride and groom took their pi ados beneath an arch of ever green and cut flowers which was located in the bay window, heavily draped with laces, where the ceremony was performed They were attended bv Herbert G. Fitch of Canandaigua. Lee Wilbur, Miss Maggie Howland and Miss Bernadiue Dewey, of ictor.

The bride wore a dress of cream white and carried a large bouquet of roses liuests were present from Canandaigua Walworth, Palmyra and Rochester. Afte congratulations a repast was served. Mr and Mrs. Pimm took the evening train for a short trip West CATTARAUGUS. Supreme court is in session at Little Valley this week.

The calendar contains 250 cases. W. C. Hong, the treasurer of the Seneca nation of Indians in Salamanca, is receiving the annual rent due from the whites for their laud. Professor J.

H. Carfrey, superintendent of the Salamanca schools, has been engaged as an instructor of mathematics in the Chautauqua summer school at Tully lake in Onondaga county. In the fire in Salamanca last week the photograph gallery of J. II. Blessing was again burned, making the fifth time Mr.

Blessing has been burned out since coming to Salamanca. However, he will open for business again as soon as a place can be arranged. WYOMING. Mrs. Henrietta Prime, a well known resident of Attica, and who hnd lived in that place -many years, died yesterday morning, aged 70 years.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Truman Griffith. Last evening at the Universalist Church in Perry a kirmess under the title of A National Pageant," was given There were 120 dancers on the programme and some very fine scenes and tableaux were presented. At the recent university extension meeting held in Attica interesting papers upon American history were presented by Miss Connor, Mrs. II.

P. Gardner and Miss Rachel Zolles. Addresses wrere given by Messrs. C. E.

Loomis and Edward Zolles. Yesterday afternoon as Miss Susie Walbridge and Miss Kittie Govvans, of Attica, were sleighridiug, the horse became unmanageable and ran away, throwing the occu) Mints to the ground. Miss Walbridge was quite badly hurt about the face and eyes, but it is thought that nothl ing serious will result from the injury. Ed. G. McConneil, of Pulteney, and Miss Sadie E. Barton, of Branchport, were united in marriage last evening at the home of the bride's parents. In consequence of the illness of the proprietor, D.

E. Dewey, The Ark," one of the most attractive summer resorts on Lake Keuka, is offered for sale. The funeral of Nora O'Donuell John ston was corducted yesterday afternoon from the residence of her parents in Penn Yan. The remains were brought from Au- burn the previous day, where ishe died. De ceased was 3S years of age.

Yates Tent, No. 88, K. O. T. will hold an open meeting at Cornwell's opera house, Penn Yan this evening.

The Baptist Church of Trumansburg, which has been undergoing interior decorations and repairs for several months, will be rededicated on Sunday, March 4th. Rev. Lewis Halsey, D. of Oswego, will preach the morning sermon. About the most uneasy person inter ested in the Trumansburg postoffice is the present encumbent, R.

J. Hunt. His com mission expired nearly a month ago, and he had made every arrangement to get out, even to securing another place of business. Knowing ones state that it may be some time before a new postmaster is appointed. ALLEGANY.

E. S. Crandall has been appointed post master at Aristotle, this county. -The latest postoffice appointments in this county are E. A.

Fletcher at West Almond, and Miss Nellie Davis at Pikeville. A county contention of Women Suf fragists is to be held at Wellsville on April 3rd and 4th. Several prominent speakers are to bo present. Hiram Huntley, one of Angelica's old est and most respected citizens, was buried last Tuesday. Mr.

Huntley was 7G years old and had lived in this country over sixty years. CAYUGA. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. George Humphrey, of Meridian, was buried Wednesday at Union Hill cemetery ia Cato.

On Wednesday at the home of the bride's parents at Hannibal Center, George Reagan, of Cato, was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Chappie. The entire Republican ticket was elected at the town meeting of Cato on Tuesday last. With the exception of supervisor the Republicans elected their entire ticket in the town of Ira. SCHUYLER. The third annual reception, of the Cook Cadets of Havana, will be given in the Academy chapel, Friday evening, March 2d.

Wednesday the remains of Andrew J. McDowell, of the town of Dix, were interred in the County Line cemetery near Watkins. The deceased was 75 years of age. The third annual fair of the Giles Hook and Ladder company of Havana, began Tuesday evening and was well attended. The fair will be held every evening during the week.

YAYNE. A Large Number of Indictments Presented to the Grand Jury. In circuit court and court of oyer and terminer yesterday morning at Lyons before Hon. William II." Adams, of Canandaigua, justice presiding, case No. 1 on the calendar was taken up for trial.

This ease is entitled Nettie West as administratrix of the goods, chattels and credits of Charles E. West, deceasvd, agninst the New York Central Hudson River rail- road company and is brought to recover the sum of 3,000. Stephen K. Williams and Ryron C. Williams of Newark, are plaintiffs attorneys of record and are assisted by Colonel Jenny, of Marshall Jenny, of Syracuse.

James W. Duuwell conducts the defense alone on the part of the defendant corporation. The summons and complaint in this, action are dated June 21. 1803. The cause of action arose out of the wreck on the West Shore railroad at Montezuma, Cayuga county, August 1S01, in which accident the plaintiff's -sou, an employe of the railroad, although not then on duty but riding on a pass in the caboose of a pick-up freight train, was killed.

The complaint is one of the broadest and contains the most broad and sweeping charges of any that has been set up in a railroad case in this county and the outcome of the suit is being watched with interest. The jury in the case of Edward P. Soverhill against Eli Talmadge after being out all night agreed to disagree and were discharged. The grand jury which has been in session since Monday arose yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock ad through Hon. Jeffem Sherman, of Na-rion, the foreman, handed up thirty-nine indictments of which thirty-seven were Sealed.

The two open ones were for murder in the first degree against F. S. Childs, of Clyde, now confined in jail for murdering James T. Nichols, of Clyde, the other for assault in the second degree committed upon C. A.

Dixon, of the same place. This represents about one indictment for every fifteen hundred of population and two indictments per hour found during the sitting of the grand jury. II. Curtis. -Mrs. I. Campbell, an aged widow of Clyde, died at her home on Park street, that place.

Tuesday evening, from heart fail-ure. For many years Mrs. Campbell had kept a candy store and bakery on Park street. Deceased was about years of age. Reports have been current for several days in Savannah and Butler of the death of Charles McGonegal formerly of the last named town, now residing with his son at Conquest.

Mr. McGonegal cut his foot and blood poisoning ensued, but he is yet alive, though very low, with the chances in favor of recovery. Elizabeth Schwab, wife of Philip Schwab, one of the richest farmers South Lyons, died yesterday morning. Deceased was one of the oldest residents of the town of Lyons and was born in Germany in 1S24, coming to this county and settling in Lyons when but 9 years of age. She leaves a hus band, Philip Schwab, one; son George E.

Schwab of South Lyons, and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Stolz, of the same place. The funeral services will be held to-morrow afternoon. Simeon Titus, contractor employed on a house being built by Hon. John A.

Mun son, at Savannah, met wilh a serious acci dent Wednesday afternoonj. Mr. Titus was on a pilo of lumber about a dozen feet from the ground, when he stepped on a loose scantling which precipitated him headlong toward the ground. Fortu nately his foot caught in the descent and held him suspended head down. He man aged to extricate himself, but will be una ble to work for several days for his leg was terribly wrenched and the cords and muscles badly strained.

The Republicans of Savannah will hold their caucus for the purpose of nom inating candidates to be supported at the annual town meeting to be held Tuesday, March 0th. to-morrow afternoon at o'clock. From present indications Addi son P. Smith will be nominated for supervisor and Charles C. Taylor for town clerk.

Both parties are now serving as such officials. The Democrats will hold their caucus in tho same hall as soon as the Republicans are through. David llov ey and George W. Cooper have boon named as probable candidates for super visor. The Delta Fhi Upsilon Fraternity of Marion Collegiate Institute held its fourth annual banquet last evening at the coun try residence in Marlon of S.

B. Dean, president of the board of trustees of that institution. The members of tho society, with lady friends to the number of thirty. drove out in sleigh loads, heartily enjoying the moonlight ride. Messrs.

B. Dean. GENESEE. Extending Le Roy's Bonds Attempt to Burglarize a Hotel. The proceeds of Tuesday evening's charity concert for the bent-fit of the Ba-tavia Relief were $235, which has been turned into the treasury of the association.

The class of '94 of the Le Roy union school -has been organized with the following officers: President, Miss Pearl G. Wal'ker; vice-president, W. R. Nellis; secretary, R. Leon Skinner; treasurer, Miss Lula Pallister.

The class has some eighteen members. Wednesday afternoon at Hie home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Morris, of Bethany, occurred the marriage of their daughter, Clara, to William W. Weller.

Mr. and Mrs. Weller will reside in Stafford after a three weeks' wedding trip to Pittsfield, Mass. In case the town votes to extend the town bonds, the entire amount to be raised the coming year, including the $8,000 for bridges, will be a little more than for other years.
