Why don't the Jewish people li.sten to his talks and understand him properly? Can't they realize he isn't against the Jews, that his Sympathy is with the poor persecuted Jews and that he justly criticize the guilty Jew as well as the guilty Gentile? Suppose the Gentiles would get into an up roar every time he or someone else criticized a Gentile, what a country thi would be Its too bad the Jews can't take it when some of their race is criticized. Regarding David Aronoff. Ac cording to the paper, Mr.

Aronoff spoke at the meeting of the People' Committee to fight Fascism and Anti-Semitism. How about fighting Communism? Being a Com-rminkut and a member of th execu tive omimittea of the Communist Party here, Mr. Aronoff probab-ly is trying to atlr up trouble. After listening to Father Cough lin' broadcast; yesterday, wa tuned in to a Buffalo station and listened to a Rabbi. His topic was.

The Unholy Three. Ha called Naziism, Fascism and Communism, "The Unholy Three," and said Jews as well as Protestants and Catholics are fighting these three. How about it, Mr. Aronoff? Why aren't you fighting "The Unholy Three" Instead cf just Fascism and Anti-Semitism? The Jews accuse Father Coughlin of inciting racial and religious hatred. He has always worked for the good of all pepole.

It too bad he is so misunderstood. I guess Its always been that way and always will tm that the one who tries to do good for the people is crucitied. Wake up, Americans! Can't you sea our country is heading for the aame disaster that has befallen foreign countries? Wake up, and rally to the aid or those who nre trying to kep our country as God wishes it to be. Lets fight all isms and beware of organizations using the name of Democracy and Peace league which is just a camoflage for the real thing3 they rpresen. E.

M. S. Rochester, N. Y. Editor Democrat and Chronicle: To the Rev.

Mr. Coughlin' charge that the Jewish Congress, held in October, failed to adopt a resolution denouncing the Soviet Union, the answer ia that the Congress did well in not going out of its way to denounce a country which does not attack Jews. That this attitude does not imply agreement with communism, but rather, respect for the ideas and rights of a nation of 175 million people to live under a form of government of their own pattern and wish. But, says Rev. Charles E.

Coughlin "There is evidence that Jewry is silent on communism and is reluctant to oppose it. There is the question of so-called anti-Semitism which is reallv anti-Corn. miinism Thus the Rev. Mr. Coughlin Justifies anti-Semitism and all its twin brothers persecution of Catholics jand Protestants, denial of free Seen Near Editor Democrat and Chronicle; Regarding your class war edi torial in Sunday's paper, wish to say am a so-called "reliefer," and as such feel that I am entitled to state my aide.

I am the father of fiva children and a a father feel that my wife and the children are entitled to the beat that I can give them. But what is the best, under present conditions? The children are undernourished and underclad; my wife is sickly and the welfare doctor does not bother to give her an examination uie oniy averages a dollar a cane), just asks her a question or two, gives her box of pills and turns her out undernourished, overworked, worried about the future; what will become of tha children; what have they in store for bheai what chnc hv they got? It no wonder aha la aick with all thesa worries. All wa hear im what tha welfare im doing for us, but how many of you really know how degrading It la, how demoralized it makes a man feel, and this feeling is reflected in th children. A check ia mailed twice a month. Out of this we pay the rent, heat and light, and what is left we eat with.

The welfare has it all figured out, but try to live decently on it. It just can't be done, a we can't get rent on what they allow. That' why there will be a class war. Why ahould many thousand of live half starved; nothing to look forward to, disillusioned, bringing up our children to go through the aame thing or worse, when we all know the politicians are living on the fat of the land, living on our blood, our children' blood. We on relief know that half the money supposed to be spent on relief never reaches us; it' gone to feed the parasites, the office hold ers, the thousands of WPA "politicians" holding office all over the country.

Mr. Editor, that clasa war Is coming and it can't come too soon for the reliefers. We are Americans and we love our country but our children come first. When a family has no real home life, when the family is ruled by poverty, that breeds discontent where happiness and content should be, then it is time to settle the matter once and for all. Either exterminate us reliefers by violence or solve the relief problm In a humanitarian manner instead of treating us like so many cattle.

You are right, the time is near wtien this matter must be settled. DISCOURAGED FATHER. Rochester, N. Y. Did They Hear Him Through Editor Democrat and Chronicle: Mr.

Democrat and Chronicle: Doe not your American League for Peace and Democracy know for what it atands? Doe not your group, "which ha no tolerance for racial prejudice" know the meaning of democracy? The essence of democracy is free dom of speech and religion.

The first amendment in the "Constitution of the United States read in part, "Congress shall make no law re specting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech." If Congres cannot restrict the freedom of speech how then can a few individuals do bo. Yet the very exponents of democracy, your league, would have a man deprived of this cherished privilege; you, who In all probability had been one of the first to complain against the control of speech in the press and radio by European dictators. Who appointed your League a censors of what Is to enter the people' ears? Father Coughlin made no effort to incite religious or racial hatred, but in the midst of the many accusations against the country and its leader held responsible for Jew ish persecution he has merely spoken his mind and fixed the blame where it is proved to belong. If newspaper, radios and other people can attack the policies of foreign countries why then cannot Father Coughlin express his views and freely criticize our government for silently consenting to the per secutory policies of Mexico, Spain and Germany, for in these case silence has meant approval to the minds of the ruler of these coun tries. Persecutions Unbiblical Editor Democrat and Chronicle: To offer Old Testament authority as a justification for the persecution of the Jewish race, as has been done recently in letters to Rochester newspapers, is as fallacious as it is wicked.

We an know that the coming of Jeus Christ signaled a "New Dispensation," and that lie Himself refuted and repudiated much of the vindictive philosophy as enunciated by Old Testament writers and prophets. Old Testament doctrine called for, "An eye for on eye, and a tooth for a tooth." Christ specifically denied this theory, adding, "A New Commandment have I given you. that ye love one another." Whoever justifies Jewish persecution, or the persecution of any minority race on any grounds whatsoever, may call himself a Christian, but he is nevertheless lacking entirely in the spirit of Jesus Christ. The races of the world average up about the same when given" the same advantages. I take off my hat to the gallant Jewish race which has uffered shameful persecution for nearly two thousand years by the so-called Christian nations.

This devoted people constituting less than 1 per cent of the population of the world, has distinguished itself in every line of human activity. The treasure and the blood of Jews has been spent freely and unselfishly for the defense of each and every country in which they lived, and of which they happen to be citizens. We hear much of the obnoxious Jew. Of course he exist. We have all met him.

But for that matter, haven't we all met lawless Individuals of each and every race, including our own native born? Need that blind us to the substantial qualities of tha average individual of whatever race happens to be? It is time that decent, right-irHnd-ed thinking people, irrespective of creed or racial strain express their disapproval by word and act against the horrors being inflicted on the Jewish race in Germany. Until the German nation has rid itxeif of the gangsters who are now governing it, and until it has repudiated and undone their crimes against civilisation, it doe not deserve to re treated as an equal among the nation of the earth, but It should be quarantined and boycotted by the civilized world. I congratulate him on this stand but fail to understand his attitude in ont Investigating the disappearance of the five hundred dollars bail money put up by two farmers in 1934. Mr. W. O. Bryan ha 100 year of schooling behind him and it would be useless for him to ay. I am right and you are all wrong; with Mr.

William or any of us, but I am pleased that Mr. Williams has a lower rate of interest ia his system; he must have been listening to Rev. Coughlin. I too believe in this because I have paid enough interest to have covered my farm one half over if it had been in one-dollar bill. Now for a few ideas of mine.

We have drifted far from the path of Christian living and it ha caught In a tide of destruction, and unless the world atop, look and listen to the still voice which tell we are brothers, no matter what color or creed, and a such we should live for one another' interest a well as our own, because Christianity is a life, not a religion. Rev. Bragan tells us this, and it im too bad more do not hear him. Until we get back to running this government business and our own on a six-day schedule we are sure for failure. I know there 1 lot of room for argument right here.

but I will take my advice from the Commandment, which aays, "Keep the Sabbath Day holy," and frankly if all that Is going on Sunday i holy, well, I am old-fashioned. We American go one way er the other, and all you have to do i go to church, and unions I am mix-taken we have taken the wrong road, and It will be a hard place to land becaiifle we are going somewhere quick. Y. Chain St Defende ores Editor Democrat and Chroniclet What is ail this talk of legislating chain stores out of busines? I'd like to hear just one good valid reason why it should be done. So far there has been only a lot of sentiment about maintaining the lndependen of individual storekeeper. Why earth should we, Ihe paying public, maintain the Individual storekeeper any more than we ahould the lndi-. vid'ial oil man or power company if any of the many other businesses run on a national scope? Hasn't the chief problem ot thi depression admittedly been how to i'stribute an abundance of good to a great number of people who need that abundance but have no way of getting it? The chain atores.

The Wagner Act set up the National Labor Relations Board to protect labor's right to form its own union and choose Its own representatives to bargain for terms. condition and mutual aid.

The Board also ha the power to prevent and investigate unfair labor practices listed in tha act and publishes an annual report. With this law and a State Board, why the frozen labor amendment in the constitution which is supposed to be only a body of fundamental law? It is claimed that to allow the employer also to petition the Board to determine the bargaining agent upon majority rule is to force the issue but undr Section 9 (c) of the act, why can't the employer complain to the Board that the union squabble in his plant is affecting commerce, thereby causing an investigation? Rules of evidence prevailing in courts of law or equity are not controlling but Section 10 (e) and (f) gives the Board and employer the tight to appeal to the proper Circuit Court of Appeal wher evidence is checked and the court is final. We need a body of labor laws. Hybrid laws will continue the confusion. AGNES SKMMLER. Shouldn't Doubt God Editor Democrat and Chronicle May 1 with all courti-xy and in the spirit of brotherhood comment on the article, "Opportunity Lost," by C. H. Wood, Prattsburg, N. as published in the Democrat and Chronicle December 30.

I quite agree with the first three paragraphs of Mr. Wood's article. It is the fourth and last pragraph I desire to comment on, in which he says, "In view of the condition the world today, should one wonder that many doubt the existence of an all-wise, loving Supreme Intelligence watching over the affair of the people." The past history of the human race reveals that present world conditions are no worse; and manv thoughtful research students will maintain that present world conditions are not as bad as much of history records. To doubt the existence of an 11-wlse, loving Supreme Intelligence is to doubt the existence of all human intelligence so plainly apparent in all this world. To the inquiring mind which searche for truth there is no question of why present world conditions are in "chaos." The human intelligence that is in harmony with "the Supreme Intelligence" knows and is not disturbed.

To all sincere searchers for "truth," may I refer to the word of the "Supreme Intelligence," God, as revealed in the Bible and particularly in the four Gospels as recorded in the New Testament-There the sincere searcher will rind ail truth. Now I would like to Inform all tho readers of the Democrat and Chronicle, Times-Union or any other paper, that while I may differ with some of the religious leaders re garding present-day happenings and of the previous, that doe not Imply that I am either an "athiet. I am old enough to know how to use my mind. I don't cast my vote by using my hat; neither do I have to so degrade my intelligence by selling that vote to every soap-box politician, national or international.

And if I by any chance did have any surplus of this world' goods in cash I would be capable and intelligent enough to put the same where it would be of some us to my fellow humans. Synagogues were converted into clubs or other public building just a Greek Catholic churches and Roman Catholic hurches were. Rabbis were sentenced to prison as the clergymen of other religions were. There are three hundred Rabbis exiled from Russia to Palestine under the name of Rabonim Elim, and contributions are sent to maintain them.

The Grand Rabbi, the head of Chasidim, was imprisoned in the terrible Petropa-vulsky krepost (1929). The Catholics and Jews sponsored protest meetings all over the world. In London, the Chief Rabbi, Hertz, the Lord Bishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of the English Catholics protested from the same pulpit in Grand Palace Hall. In Rochester we had a large mass meeting in our largest Synagogue on Hanover Street, and I was the principal protestant apainst violating the principles of free religions. In Conventon Hall there was a joint protest meeting of all religious groups.

Rabbi Jeremiah J. Berman was chosen to speak on behalf of the Jews. There were mass meet ings in all the cities in America. A few years ago Bishop Mooney preferred to send a petition instead of having a mass meeting to protest against the persecution of priests in Mexico. Jews, Catholics and Protestants were signers on the petition.
