DEMOCRAT AND Briefs Robbers hit seven stores and restaurants in city Seven city fast-food restaurants and convenience stores were robbed yesterday. Three robberies happened within 10 minutes of each other. The spate of robberies in one day was unusual, said Rochester Police Capt. Michael Leach. Police do not believe the robberies were connected, he said.

The robberies happened between 4:30 and 10 p.m. Most of the robbers got away, but one store owner at Wady's, a convenience store on Chili Avenue, held a man at gunpoint until police arrived. Two other suspects involved in a robbery at Angie's Convenient Store, 414 Genesee were being charged late last night. The robbery at Angie's occurred about 7:25 p.m. Robberies at Roy's Central Park Supermarket on Central Park and at the KFC restaurant on East Ridge Road happened within the next 10 minutes, police said.

Other robberies occurred last night at the KFC restaurant on West Main Street, Mini Market on Portland Avenue and Grocery on Columbia Avenue. Slain Rochester man has been re-identified A Rochester man who died Saturday after being shot a day earlier has been identified as 19-year-old John Burch. Burch was shot outside 218 Hamilton Ave. on Friday after getting into a scuffle with the gunman, a man he knew from jail and had an ongoing feud with, Rochester police said. Police originally identified Burch as John Webster, but yesterday they said that was one of two aliases that Burch used.

Burch, who lived at 53 Polaris died at Strong Memorial Hospital on Saturday. A suspect has not been arrested. Planned Parenthood given five computers Planned Parenthood has ceived five computers from Gifts-InKind International. The computers will be used by teens in the agency's IN-CONTROL, a pregnancy prevention effort in southwest Rochester. The outreach program is a partnership between the agency, the Urban League of Rochester and the Southwest Area Neighborhood Association.

The program offers ongoing education, counseling, case management and outreach services to young men and women. Falls FROM PAGE 1B and aluminum. A suspended, floating, red metal grate hangs over the bar, illuminated with oversized blue, yellow and green lightbulbs. Beyond the bar is the round, maple dance floor, which will change themes from big band to country-western to modern depending on the night of the week. Turn to your left and enter Centerfield, the sports bar that will serve lunch and dinner daily.

The sports bar is decorated in warmer tones than the nightclub, with moss green and eggplant striped walls and a rust-colored carpet, said Leighton, who has designed restaurants and nightclubs in Rochester, New York City, Miami and Atlanta. Sports fans will be able to watch games on either the large-screen television or on any of the 11 smaller sets lining the walls. Nearly 800 photographs from Rochester's sports teams past and present are pasted onto two large pillars in the room and on a backdrop behind the bar. The last attraction is the Off Center Jazz Lounge on the second floor, a throwback to the smoke-filled clubs of the 1940s. Visitors will be able to relax on banquette seating, upholstered in maroon velvet, as they listen to live music Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Before taking his tour yesterday, Mayor William A. Johnson Jr. said the three-story center should not be viewed just as entertainment complex. "This is not about giving people a new venue," he said. "This project is about how cities can come alive The city spent $1.2 million on the transformation of the former Brown's Race Market into what is now called The Centers at High Falls.

Private investors contributed $600.000. David Flaum, the developer who built the complex, said the project is already attracting private investment throughout the High Falls district, north of downtown. 9 CHRONICLE NOV. 18, 1997 Dinneen FROM PAGE 1B her Butternut Street driveway. "He threw a few punches.

He didn't deserve to pay with his life for that," Healy told the jury. But Dinneen's lawyer, public defender Ron Valentine, said the facts of the case are not clear. He said there are many explanations of how Heise was stabbed. He offered I several. Heise "accidentally, wounded himself when he lunged at Valentine said.

He also suggested Dinneen was acting in self-defense when he held the knife that killed Heise. Valentine said Heise had left work early and stalked Dinneen and other friends who were riding in the car Amanda Leone was driving. Valentine said Heise was "a hunter" and Dinneen was "a prey" as Heise followed Leone's car from Newark to Lyons, driving in an aggressive manner. The public defender said Heise had jumped in the car and was punching Dinneen repeatedly in the head. He suggested that the fatal chest wound could have occurred while another teen was attempting to pull Heise off Dinneen.

"Christopher's death was caused not by any action by Gavin, but by repeated acts by Christopher to carry out his threat to kill, to hurt," Valentine said. Valentine cross-examined three police officers two from Lyons, one from the Sheriff's Department about how they handled evidence in the case. Valentine raised questions about whether investigators might have failed to properly gather evidence that could have helped resolve the questions about how Heise died. During the morning session, Dinneen participated with Valentine and Healy in jury selection conferences. Dinneen is attending classes in his junior year at Lyons High School, he said.

Gingerbread FROM PAGE 1B Lubey, who remembered the Italian cathedral. "That just said, 'gingerbread' to me." So they went to work. Lubey used photos to create the "blueprints" and whatever he could get his hands on to make the cooking molds. Brindley did the baking. They used more than 15 pounds of sugar and eight batches of gingerbread, Plaster of Paris molds to create the cathedral's domes, crushed and melted butterscotch candies for the windows, and gingerbread sticks topped with "royal icing" for the cypress trees.

Icing is the glue that holds the entire work of art together. Brindley's husband, Bob, wired the creation with lights and later dubbed it "The Immaculate Construction." Lubey added the detailed murals painted with food coloring for the sanctuary. When it was all done, Brindley and Lubey looked at it in amazement. "Tears just came to my eyes," Lubey said. "I couldn't stop crying.

Of course, we were tired, too." Brindley was a little reluctant to turn it over to the Eastman House, but she had made a commitment. There also was another reason. "One of these days, it's going to fall apart," she said. "And I don't want to see Death Notices INDICATES THE FIRST APPEARANCE OF A PAID NOTICE IN THIS NEWSPAPER. Adam, Alice H.
