April 8, 2000 in Hartford, CT. She was born in Rochester, NY on October 3, 1918, the daughter of William and Alice McCord. She graduated from the University of Rochester and married the Rev. Robert G. Gordon, August 16, 1941.

As a minister's wife, she devoted generous time and loving energy to each of the churches they served, the last being Lincoln Baptist Church, in Lincoln, NY. She was trained as a French and Latin teacher, and was a frequent substitute teacher in the Wayne County School District. Her selfless service and care is a lasting legacy she leaves all knew her. Janet is survived wher children, Barbara Hummel of Madison, WI, Nancy (John) Rankin of Simsbury, CT, David (Jean) Gordon of IL; her sister, Helen (Carlos) Chapman of Apache Junction, AZ; 6 grandchildren, Chad, Stuart, Jeremy, and Brittney Rankin; Kristen Hummel; and Taylor Gordon. She was preceded in death by her son Richard in 1972 and her husband in 1995.

A Memorial Service was held April 11, with a Graveside Service planned for July 29 at Washington Island, WI.
