Camahan died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the neuro-muscular illness commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, Cam ah an 's wife, Nancy, said. The disease was diagnosed a year ago and Camahan died a few hours after he entered the hospital Tuesday, Mrs. Camahan said. 1 Camahan was executive vice president of Lowenthal Knitting Mills in Rochester from 1963 until 1969, when he left the firm and formed Sweaters Etc. Inc.

with his wife. He attended Hobart College, Geneva, before serving as a pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Seneca to burn rotting pot plants Julia R. Gage, 55, rural mail carrier in Ontario CANANDAIGUA Julia Gage of Pearl Street, who four years ago became the first woman in Ontario County to have a regular rural mail route, died Tuesday at Highland Hospital, Roches- ter. She was 55.

Mrs. Gage died of cancer and had been battling the disease the past four years, said her husband, John. Mrs. Gage worked for the Canandaigua post office as a substitute rural mail carrier for 15 years, starting in 1962. She took over her own rural route in the Canandaigua area in 1977, her husband said.

Gage said he was also a rural letter carrier and retired this past January. Canandaigua Postmaster Eleanor Carmichael said Mrs. Gage continued working until about three weeks before her death. "She was a great lady," Mrs. Carmichael said.

A member of the First United Methodist Church, Canandaigua, Mrs. Gage worked in the Ontario County Public Health and Treasurer's offlcei before she joined the post office. Mrs. Gage is also survived by a son; Jonathan of Naples; a daughter, Mary Brown of Hurst, Texas; her mother, Clara Randall of South Bristol; and two grandsons. An aerial search for other marijuana plants growing in Seneca County may be made later this week, Deputy Barry Van Nostrand said yesterday.

But he wouldn't say what parts of the county would be checked. "We'd just as soon not say anything about that yet," he said. The tips have been coming in steadily since we started all this. We have a few places we want to check out, but we don't want it in the newspaper." Deputy Jeffrey Bond heads the investigation that began two weeks ago, when he followed up an anonymous tip and found 1,000 marijuana plants growing in small gar- den plots behind a house on Skinner Road, Lodi. A few days later, Bond and Van Nostrand checked out another lead and discovered an even bigger crop 1,081 plants on property off Combs Road in the town of Ovid.

Last week they located two more groups of marijuana plants off Combs Road. To date, deputies have found and pulled up more than 2,100 plants with an aggregate weight of nearly 800 pounds. An arrest warrant is out for Sam Stern, 30, formerly of Trumans-burg, on a charge of growing cannabis without a license in violation of the state Public Health Law. Police believe as many as eight or nine other people may have been working with Stern. By CAROL RITTER The odor of rotting marijuana plants was so strong at the Seneca County sheriffs office last week that fans had to be used to clear the air.

While still planning to keep enough plants to present his case, Seneca County District Attorney Stuart 0. Miller yesterday agreed to seek a court order to destroy most of the rotting and moldy plants confiscated in the county since June 30. Seneca County Undersheriff Thomas J. Cleere asked for the order because the plants are rot-ting in two locked storage areas in the basement of the sheriffs building in Waterloo, Miller said. Cleere said he and Miller agreed to save four plants from each of the four batches confiscated from Ovid and Lodi fields in the past two weeks.

Three plants from each group will be frozen intact to be used as evidence, and the fourth from each group will be sent to the state police laboratory for analysis, Cleere said. As soon as the order is signed by Seneca County Judge Daniel A. DePasquale, the plants to be destroyed will be taken to Willard i Psychiatric Center and burned in a closed incinerator, Miller said. Last week, Cleere said the confiscated marijuana, packed in unsealed plastic trash bags, had begun to rot and mold in storage. upcoming MM Geneva Firemen's Parade scheduled tomorrow GYMSETS FAMILY POOLS IN STOCK RECULARLY 389.96-799.96 Steel or aluminum construction with heavy gauge winterized liners manufacturer warranties.

Q. I raise little critters to sell to pet shops and the sick ones I put to sleep, using chloroform. Recently, I ran out of chloroform and have been searching for the equivalent, but can't find anything that's as merciful, safe or inexpensive. The veterinarian wants $10 a shot to put my sick or injured (sometimes born deformed) animals to sleep. Some of them aren't as big as the tip of my little finger.

I can't afford this either in money or time. I may have to resort to mixing bleach and toilet crystals. (Before I figured out the safe mixture I'd be dead.) What can I do? What chemicals can I purchase that can be mixed to put my poor babies to sleep? I'm at my wits end with 300 or 400 animals to care for and no way to help them when they need me. Oh, another thine. I had a friend of mine put an injured hamster to sleep by using carbon monoxide from the tail pipe of his truck.

It took almost 10 minutes and the poor thing fought all the way to the end. I just couldn't stand to do this again. GERI ROSIER, Holley A. The "little critters" Ms. Rosier raises are hamsters, white mice and rabbits.
