Mr. bley joined the firm's public relations department in 1962. He worked in Rochester until 1969, when he moved with the company's headquarters to Connecticut "He worked very closely with David Curtin (then-vice president of communications), said John C. Rasor, manager of public relations for the Xerox business systems group. "Together they really built the foundation for many of the promotional activities we see today in Xerox." Mr.

Isley was born in Syracuse and graduated from the School of Journalism at Syracuse University in 1949. Before World War II, he worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C., and in the Republic of Panama. Dr. Cronkite was admired and respected by his peers for his professionalism and commitment in assisting students, said Joseph Clement superintendent of the Spencerport School District "He was a caring and understanding person who had the ability to gain instant rapport with students. Likewise, his ability to work with counselors and parents was truly outstanding," Clement said. Clement said Dr. Cronkite had a pleasant personality and was always willing to give students a genuine "pat on the back." Dr.

Cronkite's son, Steven, said his father was a "sensitive, fair person who was easy to talk to." Dr. Cronkite was a native of Maine. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1956 and a master's degree from the State College at Albany. In 1959, he received a doctorate from the State College at Buffalo. (Both colleges are now part of the State University of New York.) He had been a Spencerport school district psychologist since 1971.

Prior to that he was a teacher in Chittenango, Madison County, and a guidance counselor and director of guidance for junior high schools in the Churchville-Chili School District He also was a psychologist for BOCES No. 2 in Spencerport He was a member of the New York State United Teachers, National Association of School Psychologists, and the Genesee Valley Psychological Association. In addition to his son, Steven, of Spencerport, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Sandra and Susan; his mother, Mrs. Emery Cronkite of Maine; two brothers, Richard Cronkite of Fairport and Emery Cronkite of Maine; a sister, Janice Laughlin of Maine; a granddaughter, Amy; and several nieces and nephews.
